Nuremberg, Bavaria’s second-largest city with around 520,000 inhabitants, is located in the heart of Franconia and looks back on over 950 years of history. In the Middle Ages, the city was one of Europe’s most important trading centers and is now a modern business and technology hub, known for innovations in IT, energy, and industry, among other things.
The historic old town, surrounded by an almost completely preserved city wall, delights visitors with its imposing Imperial Castle, Gothic churches such as St. Lorenz and St. Sebald, and picturesque squares such as the Main Market Square. The famous Christmas market takes place here every year.
